Day 1

San José

Welcome to Costa Rica! Arrive in San Jose and check-in at your hotel, this evening meet your tour leader and fellow travellers. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards or spend time at leisure.

Overnight: Boutique Hotel Casa Las Oriquideas (or similar)

Days 2-3

San José to Quepos

Begin your adventure by travelling to Quepos and exploring over the next few days, visiting Manuel Antonio National Park to swim, fish, kayak through the mangroves, sail or take a surf lesson. You could even enjoy relaxing on the beach or a dolphin-spotting sunset sail in the evening.

Day 4-5

Quepos to Monteverde Cloud Forest

On day 4 you will journey from Quepos to Monteverde to explore the town and the cloud forest reserve, looking out for tropical birds and visiting the unique communities. You could even enjoy the Sky Walk, a series of suspension bridges that link through the jungle canopy, plus a butterfly garden, canopy zip-line and a frog pond. Tonight you have the option of joining a naturalist guide for a tour in the cloud forest after dark. Learn about the nocturnal animals including mammals, birds, insects, reptiles and amphibians. Day 5 - spend time at leisure exploring the Cloud Forest or opt to fly across the canopy on zip lines or go on a coffee plantation tour.

Days 6-8

Monteverde to La Fortuna

On day 6 you will leave Monteverde and venture by vehicle and boat to La Fortuna, a fantastic town near the foot of the jaw-dropping Arenal Volcano that is well known for its spectacular views and wild activities including rafting, waterfall rappelling, and relaxing in hot springs. The next few days will be free for you to explore the town, with optional activities including horseback riding, caving, whitewater rafting and mountain biking.

If you prefer something less active take a tour of the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge or admire the 600 species of birds before relaxing in the Hot Springs.

Days 9-10

La Fortuna to Sarapiqui Rainforest

In the morning of day 9 you will visit a coffee cooperative in the small village of San Miguel de Sarapiqui for a traditional coffee tour and a delicious local lunch. On day 10, wake to a sunrise birding hike in the rainforest with a local guide, looking out for rare species. You’ll have the remainder of the day free to explore Sarapiqui Valley, including swimming in the river, enjoying a night walk, learning to make empanadas and simply lounging in a hammock surrounded by the stunning Costa Rican countryside. Spend two nights immersed in the rainforest at a unique jungle oasis. The Sarapiquí Valley is home to hundreds of species of animals, birds, and butterflies, and our jungle lodge brings us into the heart of it all.

Overnight: Pozo Azul (or similar - one breakfast, two lunches and two dinners included)

Days 11-12

Sarapiqui Rainforest to Tortuguero

On day 11 you will travel to Tortuguero by tractor, private van, and by boat. You’ll also have the opportunity to spot green and leatherback turtles at night time in the national park (seasonal). On day 12 you’ll have free time to explore Tortuguero’s small town – you could kayak through the canals in search of wildlife, wander through the streets, or watch turtle eggs hatch (seasonal).

Overnight: Baula Lodge (or similar - two breakfasts, lunches and dinners included)

Days 13-14

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

The coastal town of Puerto Veijo de Talamanca is your port of call for the next two days. There are many activities to try out here, including snorkelling in the Caribbean sea, hiking and exploring the Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge, biking to the beach or taste testing delicious Caribbean cuisine.

Day 15

San José

Transfer to San José for one final evening with the group before your return flight.

Day 16

San José

Depart today from San Jose, or talk to our team about adding a few nights by the beach.
