Explore Thailand’s vibrant capital Bangkok, head into the countryside and visit the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai on this five-day tour. The adventure begins in bustling Bangkok and includes a peaceful stay with locals in Ban Nong Khao Village, followed by a trip to the riverside town of Kanchanaburi to learn about Thailand’s war history.

Day 1

Bangkok

Welcome to Thailand! Your trip begins in the exciting capital, Bangkok. Settle into your hotel, Vimala Suites, which is named after King Rama V’s granddaughter Her Highness Princess Vimalachatra. Have dinner with the rest of your tour group and meet the hotel owner, a descendant of King Rama V. Listen to the story of this unique hotel, which is filled with beautiful antiques.

Day 2

Bangkok

The morning is yours to relax, have breakfast and perhaps explore some of the city independently. In the afternoon, you’ll board a wooden long-tail boat for a ride along the city’s picturesque canals, known as Khlongs, which are lined with Thai houses. We’ll make a stop at the Khlong Bang Luang Artist Village to see a fascinating Thai puppet show.

The boat trip continues down the Chao Phraya River, which is lined with temples and historic buildings like the Grand Palace. Stop off to see one of the most famous 19th century Wat Arun, the Temple of the Dawn. Its spire reaches 70 metres into the sky and is covered in coloured glass and porcelain, you can climb to the top for views over the city.

End the day with a street food tour by tuk tuk to taste some of Bangkok’s most popular dishes, including papaya salad, pad Thai, spring rolls and mango sticky rice.

Day 3

Bangkok – Ban Nong Khao Village – Kanchanaburi

Today you’ll leave the city and head into the stunning Thai countryside. You’ll stop at a farming settlement, Ban Nong Khao Village, to sample a real slice of rural Thai culture. Meet a family and share a traditional lunch while you learn about their life. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at a tented riverside camp.

Day 4

Kanchanaburi – Bridge on the River Kwai

Spend the day exploring Kanchanaburi, which is surrounded by rice paddies and mountain ranges. The town is known for its WWII history and Death Railway, which was built by allied prisoners of war and Asian labourers, 240,000 of whom died in its construction. Learn about this tragic history at the JEATH War Museum and Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.

You’ll also get the chance to see the Bridge on the River Kwai and relax with a boat trip to your accommodation, the lavish River Kwai Jungle Raft. You’ll spend the night on this floating hotel surrounded by forest scenery and enjoy dinner and a Mon dance and music show.

Day 5

Kanchanaburi – Bangkok

The final morning is yours to take in the tranquil surroundings before your transfer back to a hotel in Bangkok, arriving mid-to-late afternoon.
