Flight and Transfers
Direct flights from London to Beijing Capital Airport are approximately 10 hours 30 minutes. Flights to Hong Kong take approximately 11 hours 40 minutes.
British nationals require visas to enter Mainland China, Visas cannot be obtained on arrival except at Hainan Island. British Citizens travelling to the China require a full British passport which must be valid for 6 months after departure from this country. All children and infants must also have their own passports for entry into the China. All travellers should check full entry requirements prior to travel by visiting the FCO website or by contacting the relevant embassy.
The official and primary language is Mandarin Chinese. English is spoken at least a little in the tourist areas and there are many other dialects of Chinese.
Trains in China are famously popular and excellent for use over long distances. Buses are very useful within cities and over middle-distance trips. Taxis are plentiful and relatively cheap.
The Chinese Yuan is the local currency.
220V, 50Hz. Flat and v shape pronged plugs are common.
