Day 1

Tokyo

Welcome to Tokyo, Japan’s vibrant capital and one of the world’s largest and most exciting cities. Upon arrival you’ll be met at the airport for a transfer into the city centre, allowing you to check in to your hotel with time to relax or explore as you wish.

Day 2 

Tokyo

Today, enjoy a private half-day guided tour to introduce you to Tokyo’s diverse mix of tradition and modernity. You’ll visit the sacred Meiji Shrine, set within a forested oasis in Shibuya, followed by a stroll along Takeshita Street in Harajuku, a colourful hub of youth fashion. At Tsukiji Outer Market, sample fresh seafood and snacks before heading to Tokyo Tower for fantastic views of the city skyline.
The final port of call on this tour is Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s oldest neighbourhoods, home to the iconic Senso-ji Temple. Browse traditional souvenirs along Nakamise-dori, the temple's shopping street, and soak in the nostalgic atmosphere. 

This afternoon, continue exploring at your own pace—perhaps visit Ueno Park and its museums, or head to Akihabara for electronics and anime culture.

Day 3 

Tokyo

Today, escape the city on a full-day private tour to the breathtaking landscapes surrounding Mount Fuji and Hakone. With your guide, choose up to three sites in the Mount Fuji area—popular options include the peaceful Lake Kawaguchiko, the scenic Chureito Pagoda, and the charming Oshino Hakkai village with its clear spring-fed ponds. On a clear day, you'll enjoy majestic views of Mt Fuji rising above the countryside.

In the Hakone area, enjoy a ride on the Hakone Ropeway, which offers panoramic views of sulphuric hot springs and the surrounding mountains, followed by a serene cruise across Lake Ashi, with possible glimpses of Fuji from the water. After a full day of exploration, return to Tokyo in comfort on the Shinkansen bullet train, an experience in itself

Day 4

Takayama

Leave Tokyo behind and travel by train to the beautifully preserved town of Takayama, located in the Japanese Alps. The journey is scenic, winding through mountainous landscapes and rural villages. Upon arrival, you’ll feel as though you've stepped back in time. Takayama is known for its historic Edo-period streets, sake breweries, and traditional wooden houses.

In the afternoon, Takayama at your leisure. Perhaps explore the charming Sanmachi Suji district, where you’ll find merchant houses, local shops, and craft stores. Visit the Miyagawa Morning Market if time allows, and try some local delicacies such as Hida beef skewers or Mitarashi dango (sweet soy-glazed rice dumplings). The town's relaxed pace is a perfect change from Tokyo's bustling streets.

Day 5 

Takayama

This morning enjoy a local food tour, sampling Takayama’s traditional cuisine and local specialities.

The afternoon is yours to continue explore at your leisure. Consider visiting Takayama Jinya, a former government office from the Edo period, or wander around the Hida Folk Village, an open-air museum showcasing traditional thatched-roof farmhouses. In the evening, enjoy a relaxing soak at a local onsen or sample more of the town’s renowned cuisine.

Day 6

Kanazawa

Depart Takayama this morning and travel by train to the elegant city of Kanazawa, located on the Sea of Japan. Rich in culture and tradition, Kanazawa is famous for its historical districts, art museums, and one of Japan's most beautiful gardens. Upon arrival, check in and head to Kenrokuen Garden, a meticulously landscaped masterpiece that changes character with each season.

Adjacent to the garden is Kanazawa Castle, which offers lovely walking paths and panoramic views. For a dose of modern culture, visit the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, known for its interactive installations. Kanazawa’s mix of old and new, combined with its artistic flair, makes it a delight to explore.

Day 7

Kanazawa

This morning, enjoy a personalised 3-hour walking tour with a knowledgeable local guide. Discover the highlights of Kanazawa at a relaxed pace, including the historic Higashi Chaya geisha district, the Nagamachi samurai quarter, and quaint lanes lined with tea houses and traditional shops. Your guide will tailor the experience based on your interests.

Afterwards, take advantage of your guide’s tips for the afternoon—perhaps visit the DT Suzuki Museum, dedicated to Zen philosophy, or enjoy a matcha tea experience in one of the city’s atmospheric tea houses. Kanazawa is also known for its gold leaf crafts, which make for elegant souvenirs.

Day 8 

Hiroshima

Today you’ll journey by train to Hiroshima, a city that has transformed itself from tragedy into a symbol of peace and resilience. After checking in, take some time to explore nearby sights such as the beautifully restored Hiroshima Castle or the tranquil Shukkeien Garden, a historical Japanese landscape garden perfect for a peaceful afternoon walk.

In the evening, you might want to sample okonomiyaki, a savoury pancake-like dish that is a Hiroshima specialty. Head to Okonomimura, a multi-storey complex dedicated entirely to okonomiyaki restaurants, for an authentic and delicious dinner experience.

Day 9

Hiroshima and Miyajima Island

Join your private guide for a an informative full-day tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. Begin at Peace Memorial Park, visiting the A-Bomb Dome, Children’s Peace Monument, and the impactful Peace Memorial Museum. These solemn sites serve as powerful reminders of the city’s history and its commitment to peace.

Later, travel by ferry to Miyajima (**additional cost), famous for the stunning Itsukushima Shrine and its floating torii gate, one of Japan’s most iconic views. Enjoy wandering the island’s quiet paths, meeting tame deer, and perhaps sampling grilled oysters, another local delicacy. Return to Hiroshima in the evening with a deeper understanding of Japan’s history and culture.

Day 10 

Kyoto

This morning, take the train to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural capital. The city is famed for its exquisite temples, wooden townhouses, and serene gardens. Once you arrive, check in and begin exploring the historic Gion district, known for its geisha culture and traditional wooden architecture.

In the evening, we suggest a walk along Pontocho Alley, one of Kyoto’s most atmospheric dining streets, or visit the Yasaka Shrine, beautifully lit after dark. Kyoto’s rich history and charm are immediately apparent, and there is much to look forward to in the coming days.

Day 11 

Kyoto

Today, enjoy a convenient and immersive bus tour of Kyoto’s top sights (On-board audio guide in English included). Visit Tenryu-ji Temple, a Zen masterpiece in Arashiyama, followed by a stroll through the magical Bamboo Grove. Continue to the shimmering Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), one of Japan’s most photographed temples.

In the afternoon, explore the famous Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, known for its thousands of vermillion torii gates that wind through the forested hillside. With multilingual audio guidance, this tour provides an easy and informative way to experience Kyoto’s most iconic locations in one day.

Day 12 

Kyoto

Today is free for you to explore the city as you wish. We’d recommend taking a 45-minute train journey to Nara, a small town that’s home to Nara Park – famous for its tame deer - as well as Todaiji Temple, which is home to Japan’s largest Buddha.

Day 13 

Osaka

The final stop of your adventure is Osaka – every foodie’s idea of heaven. The day is free for you to explore Japan’s culinary capital at your own pace. We recommend exploring Dotonbori, a vibrant street renowned for its bright neon lights and incredible food stalls that offer local Osakan delights including fugu (poisonous puffer fish). There’s even an optional food tour that sees you trying menchi katsu (a local favourite of breaded, deep-fried patty of ground meat), sake and Japanese wine, and a restaurant that specialises in wagyu beef.

Day 14

Osaka

Today marks the end of your tour with a transfer to Osaka airport for your flight home.
