Dunedin holidays - Proud, Scottish and fun

Dunedin is a quirky city, with a colourful Scottish heritage fused with the sort of awe-inspiring scenery expected from New Zealand's stunning South Coast.

A brilliant spot for hiking and dining

As with much of New Zealand, you’re never far from pristine natural beauty. Dunedin has a number of excellent tramping trails – ‘tramping’ being New Zealand’s term for hiking – and also the world’s only mainland albatross breeding colony.

The city itself is one of New Zealand’s prettiest. The combination of wonderful Edwardian and Victorian architecture blends beautifully with the landscape. And the rather grand railway station is worth a visit by itself.

But Dunedin is more than just a beauty spot – this is a vibrant city with a sociable ambience. You’ll find an excellent range of restaurants, bars and cafés, and it’s well worth taking a tour of Speight’s Brewery and the Cadbury chocolate factory.

Why visit Dunedin?

  • Go ‘tramping’ on the hiking trails nearby – the stunning scenery makes it very worthwhile
  • Tour the fantastic Speight’s Brewery and learn a little about the south’s favourite beer
  • More than a century old, the grand Dunedin Railway Station is a superb photo opportunity
  • Head to the beach for swimming or surfing
  • Want something quirky? Dunedin is home to steepest street in the world – it’s a ten minute walk to the top
