Overview

After being ‘discovered’ by Sir William Cameron in 1885, the Cameron Highlands developed expansive hill station estates that grew in popularity throughout the roaring twenties, when English ex-pats were drawn here as a respite from the heat of the city to enjoy the scenic vistas while they played golf and took afternoon tea.

Today’s guests enjoy the same scenery and timeless leisure pursuits whilst staying at the luxurious Cameron Highlands Resort; take earl grey with scones at this classic resort established in the 1930s.

It is now a luxury hotel that offers tea baths at the full service spa, sits adjacent to the Golf Course and enjoys its own countryside hiking trails; accommodation is in colonial styled rooms and there is a ballroom, tea room, billiard rooms and reading room to explore.

(In some instances the tour may use an alternative yet similar resort of the same standard).

As well as two nights at a luxury resort, the tour also takes you to the famous Batu Caves, where the shrine of the Hindu deity Lord Subramanian is set within an outcrop of limestone caves. On your second day you will have the opportunity to learn about the tea industry and the history of this hill resort and peek into the past of Cameron Highlands through a photographic gallery at the Time Tunnel Museum.

The Cameron Highlands make an easy and delightful side trip to add to a Kuala Lumpur stay, the area is also perfectly located for a visit en-route to Penang. The tour can be arranged on a private basis, just for you and your travelling companions or you can join a small group tour that departs every other Wednesday (first and third Wednesday of the month) - (DTM)

Day 1

Batu Caves & Cameron Highlands

After breakfast in your Kuala Lumpur Hotel, depart around 8.30am and proceed to visit the famous Batu Caves. You will then continue north to the Hill Resort of Cameron Highlands with an en-route stop to visit a local crafts outlet, where natural bamboo baskets are made and view the Lata Iskandar Waterfall.

Upon arrival at the Cameron Highlands, check in to your hotel for 2 nights and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore the surrounding area or the hotel’s own charms.

Day 2

Tea plantation, farm & market

After breakfast explore the many interesting sights of this hill resort starting with the world famous tea plantation and tea factory to learn about the tea making process. You will also have a chance to sit down and sample the produce with a cup of tea at the café with stunning views overlooking the plantations.

Tea is not the only successful crop from the Highlands; this area produces vegetables both for the nation's consumptions as well as for exports. After visiting the vegetable farm and strawberry farm, continue to the morning market where you can find all the produce of Cameron Highlands sold in one place; a great chance for some souvenirs.

The next stop is the Butterfly Farm, followed by the informative Time Tunnel Museum. Lastly take a stroll around the cafes and stores of Tanah Rata, a meeting point in the area of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine. Return to the hotel at approximately at 4pm, where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

(Note: The tea plantation is closed on Mondays)
