Overview

Step away from the more common view of Thailand with its busy capitals and flamboyant architecture to enjoy a glimpse of rural life. Exploring the village and jungle as you spend time with a local hilltribe community, for an access all areas glimspe of (very) rural life.While you’re here, you’ll sample traditional and simple but incredibly tasty cuisine, learn about daily life in the hills and try your hand at day-to-day activities (GLL)

Details

Day 1

Chiang Mai

Arrive into Chiang Mai and attend a welcome meeting in the evening. Take the opportunity to explore the city if you have time, including the many great cafés, shops and temples.

Day 2

Baan Jamoo

Transfer to the jungle highlands of northwest Thailand with time for a stopover in Pai for lunch. You’ll meet with your local hosts and help make dinner using regional products and traditional methods.

Day 3

Baan Jamoo

Today you will walk to the fields which surround the village to learn how these people farm – you can even take part! Afterwards, visit a pre-historic wooden coffin cave and then dine on a typical jungle lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll have the chance to learn about the local education system as you visit a school, then learn about the activities which take place here and the Lahu culture. As part of this, you’ll be able to try your hand at bamboo weaving, making a Lahu bag and learning to play a Lahu instrument. You can then help to prepare dinner, if you wish.

Day 4

Baan Jamoo

Walk to a nearby hilltribe community to learn about the Shan people, who are the local masters of wet rice farming and irrigation. The views from here are astonishing so be sure to take time to admire the surrounding scenery before heading back to Baan Jamoo. You can, if you’d prefer, skip the walk and spend the day in the Baan Jamoo community.

Day 5

Chiang Mai

Bid farewell to your hosts today and buy any last-minute hand-crafted goods as souvenirs before heading back to Chiang Mai for your last evening with your group.

Chiang Mai

Depart from Chiang Mai today. (Transfer is not included)
